Escaping the Forbidden Forest

My next project is a panned BG set in an age of medieval fantasy. I want it to have a very pointed, stylized appearance, different from what I normally draw:) This is the horse and rider I animated for the project and it will be traveling across a forbidden forest that I will design later this week :D I'm very excited to complete this and hopefully I will be able to add colour to it this summer! Enjoy!

BTW, sorry for the crappy quality, this is just a pencil test.

Lots of Togas!

The Goddess Invidia
The Roman Prince

The lovely Palace Ward
The silly sidekick

There took me forever to finalize! Along with a ton of research! They are my character designs for a hypothetical animated period piece! It is set in Ancient Rome, and consists of a hero, love interest, villain and comic relief. No names yet, but so far these characters are part of an intense story about a greedy roman prince who seeks the help of the ancient roman Goddess to destroy the bond between the woman he loves and her betrothed. The story twists when the Goddess falls for the prince and tries to eliminate the woman he loves so that she may have him for herself and rule all of Rome as Queen. Her hilarious henchman, the snake carry's out her evil deeds and eventually through an epic battle the prince realizes the havoc he has risen by awakening the Goddess and imprisons her back into the depths of the sea.

First Digital BG!

So painting in Photoshop is a new experience for me. It is much faster and much cleaner than traditional painting, so I think I might like it better. This is once again an original layout design. I wanted it to be a French style village because I really love old French architecture. Now I am officially working only in photoshop for BG paintings so there will be many more to come! :D

I recently edited the buildings in the background to give the painting a softer look. Here are both versions.
